across the middle-east with anti-u.s. protests, spreading to iran, iraq, lang badesh and morocco. in yemen, the u.s. ermbassy was breached when hundreds of demonstrators converged in front of the diplomatic post. according to witnesses, the protest turned violent as rioters stormed a wall set fire to a building inside the compound and raided the place n. iran, protesters outside the swiss embassy, which looks after u.s. interests shouted "death to america!" in iraq, hundreds of shiite radicals took to the streets in baghdad and threatened violence to the united states. we are learning that the libyan government has arrested four men suspect in the deadly attack on the u.s. embass nebenghazi on tuesday. now, that took the life of four americans. libyan officials are telling us that more suspects are being sought. fears are intensifying that another wave of violence could be coming as protesters are scheduled to storm the streets again tomorrow. once again, this is a live look at pictures of the ongoing violence outside of the u.s. embass necairo. our reporter is standing by with t

below the more bloody, more deadly iraq war but approaching the 2000 number as the president tries to wind that down. one other point to note since we're having this conversation about the candidates for president, lot of those veterans who are coming home from iraq and afghanistan, here's where they live. the darker the state, the higher the veteran population. you see a state like virginia, state like new hampshire with a higher percentage of population so veterans in some of the battleground states, important constituency. >> dan, on the trail, in stump speeches, does the president regularly talk about afghanistan? >> well, it's never the focus of the president's stump speech unless he is talking to veterans or he's in a region that's heavy military. what you hear from the president is this promise, this campaign promise that he made to not only end the war in iraq but also wind down the war in afghanistan, as john was just talking about, pulling out troops by the end of 2014, handing over security to the afghan forces. but there's still a lot of concern out there about whether

, but we have made some very clear red lines there. >> people will say this is very reminiscent of iraq. you have a bad guy who is believed to be in the process of either developing or has wmd. we know what happened with iraq, that that intelligence was flawed. can america, can the world, risk another flawed military action if it turns out ahmadinejad is actually telling the truth? >> first of all, it's very different from iraq. i personally never saw any intelligence that was at all persuasive on the nuclear issue. i wanted the inspectors to go in there for a simple reason. when the first gulf war was over, we began an accounting of all of saddam's weapons of mass destruction, which mostly consisted of chemical warheads and chemical and biological agents. in 1998, when he kicked the inspectors out, there were two biological agents and two chemical agents, a substantial quantity unaccounted for. we bombed, the u.s. and uk. after 9/11, i thought it was important for the inspectors to go in, try to find out whether we had destroyed that or not. we later learned when he was deposed that it

his thoughts. here he is, ready go. first, veterans returning from wars in iraq and afghanistan often come home to fight another battle to find a job. one army vet tried to use what he learned in the military to start a business. here is this week's, how we got started. >>> in 2003, i was deployed with the 101st airborne division as part of operation iraqi freedom. when i came home, i didn't have a plan. i decided to do something i was good at. when i was a leader in the army, you are asked to weed soldiers into combat situations that are stressful. being trained for that allowed me to have the courage and the confidence to be able to do what i did in the army on the civilian side. >> reporter: in 2008, he started empower in middleton, connecticut. it's an outdoor facility that teaches. >> get them a step out of the comfort zone and push themselves more. they are going to learn and grow from that. >> reporter: he used different networking to help it succeed. >> using chamber of commerce and organizations that are willing to help veterans. good posture. >> reporter: the company has bee

. and it is beyond cairo tonight. anti-u.s. demonstrators clashed in front of u.s. embassies, in israel, sudan, iraq, iran and among muslims in kashmir. there's a call in iran for nationwide rallies tomorrow. it appears to be a backlash at least in part from a low budget anti-islamic film which was made in the united states, first posted on youtube in july and recently publicized in the middle east. here's what we're also learning tonight. federal officials say the filmmaker's name is nakoul nakoula basseley nakoula. that name is very important and much more and why it matters so much later. but the group loosely affiliated with al qaeda in libya that has been accused of playing a role in tuesday's deadly attack on the american consulate in benghazi has just issued a statement denying responsibility. it's an important thing to say given that they have quickly claimed responsibility for other attacks, including on american interests and on the red cross. libyan prime minister tells cnn at least one person has been arrested in conjunction with the killings of the american ambassador chris steven's and

to the ill conceived war in iraq and signed into law historic health care reform. a dream that was already decades overdue when i called for it at this convention 36 years ago. and he has done it all in the face of bitter, unyielding and in fact unprecedented partisan opposition. overseas, president obama has restored the reputation of the united states within the world community. dialogue and collaboration are once again possible with the return of a spirit of trust and goodwill to our foreign policy. of course, there remains much to do. in communities across america and in countries around the world, life is too hard for too many people. we see their struggles and our hearts go out to them. and in the coming years, our hands must continue to reach out to them. yet for all that remains to be done, at home and abroad, the evidence is overwhelming. president obama is a leader for america, as we have placed the onslaught of some of the most complicated, domestic and international challenges to confront any u.s. president in modern times. it's up to all of us to make sure that the american pe

intrinsic goodness and it's a vision that to some degree we just tried. remember when we went into iraq and we were told that the people of iraq would know we were doing it for the right reasons and we would be greeted as liberators and there would be flowers and candy and we would use overwhelming force at the beginning? it was called shock and awe back then. but then we'd be out of there pretty quickly. it didn't work out that well. and one of the guys who's most responsible for it not working out that well was don rumsfeld who, hey, what a coincidence, just came to romney's defense on these comments today saying on a radio show, it was, quote, the responsible thing to do to make this argument. and this gets back to the real underlying point romney was making in his statement. romney said he made that statement to show there was a real foreign policy divide between him and the obama administration. but what that statement really was about was a divide between romney and the people on the ground. the press release romney's attacking came from folks trapped in the egyptian embassy feari

. afghanistan, pakistan, iraq and egypt. under president romney, how would that lineup change? >> he's not getting into line items here about which particular country would get money. he's talking specifically about the mechanics, the framework through which we give money and how it's implemented and what are the conditions in place. so, for instance, if we want the power of free enterprise to advance the developing world, we have got to work to remove the barriers that make free enterprise successful in the developing world. limits on free speech, limits on private property protections. limits on the rule of law. >> dictatorships that are corrupt? >> so we've got to work with international institutions and our own development agencies and the international community to put tougher conditions on these countries when money is dispersed. so i'll give you a real live example going on right now. egypt. right now there is a question. egypt is the second largest recipient of foreign aid, and there is a big transition in government, a muslim brotherhood president in place. should we be givi

's a war zone like iraq and afghanistan, had it been in the early 2000s, then you send in the military, send in as many troops as you need. you just take over. but when you're trying to do that in a sovereign country or a country trying to gain its independence and stand up for itself, that's an extremely difficult situation to do that in. >> tom, from your experience, is it possible to have a thorough investigation without setting foot at a crime scene like this? >> it's still impossible to have a very good investigation and bob is correct, it would be nice to go in there and see what kind of armament was used and where, you know, how they actually took down those buildings. but on the other hand, if they go in there and they find and they do the explosive residue and send everything back to the lab to be examined and they find they've got munitions from the united states, from nato countries, from other countries, that's going to basically tell them nothing, because, because of the insurrection that led up to the overthrow of gadhafi. you have countries from all over the world, inclu
